Forest School

The concept of Forest Schools (www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/forestschools) was developed in Scandinavia, and is based on the principle that children benefit from the learning opportunities present in a woodland environment. It encourages children to make choices, use their initiative and take risks and generally promotes positive attitudes and behaviour.

Withymead has been involved with the Oxfordshire Forest Schools Project since 2006. An old orchard has been designated for the Forest School, proving a safe environment for the children to explore and learn about nature. A number of local schools visit regularly under the supervision of a trained Forest School Leader.
