The main aims of the
Anne Carpmael
Charitable Trust are
to: |
| |
|
o |
protect
and
enhance
Withymead
Nature
Reserve;
providing
a
habitat
where
indigenous
and
migratory
wildlife
can be
sustained
in their
natural
habitat; |
|
|
|
|
o |
help and
encourage
young
children
to enjoy
natural
history
–
The
Forest
School; |
|
|
|
|
o |
provide
a place
in the
local
community
where
people
can
enjoy
peace
and
beauty. |

Since the nature
reserve was opened
in 2005 on-going
maintenance and
conservation work
has been carried out
by the resident
wardens and with the
help of the
conservation group
from Sonning Common
Green Gym,
http://sonningcommon.btcv.org.uk/)
members have been
making the grounds
safe and more
accessible for
visitors.
During the winter of
2006/7, boardwalks
were installed
through the reed
beds. An on-going
programme of
providing viewing
platforms and bird
hides will make it
easier to reach
inaccessible parts
of the reserve.
A derelict building
in the grounds is
due to be demolished
and replaced with a
Visitor Centre,
providing better
facilities for
visitors and a place
for children from
the
Forest School to
shelter when the
weather is bad. |
